Deeper analysis

CVE-2024-50579 is a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability (CWE-79) caused by insecure link sanitization in JetBrains YouTrack versions prior to 2024.3.47707. The flaw received a CVSS 3.1 score of 4.6, reflecting network attack vector, low complexity, and the requirement for low-privileged authenticated access plus victim user interaction.

An attacker with a low-privileged YouTrack account can supply a crafted link that, when visited by another authenticated user, executes arbitrary script in the victim's browser session. Successful exploitation yields limited read and write access to data visible within that session but does not affect availability or cross-scope resources.

The official JetBrains advisory at https://www.jetbrains.com/privacy-security/issues-fixed/ identifies the issue as resolved in YouTrack 2024.3.47707; administrators are therefore advised to upgrade affected instances to that release or later. The associated EPSS score has remained flat at 0.0787 with no material increase since disclosure.
