CVE-2025-34089
Published: 03 July 2025
Summary
CVE-2025-34089 is a critical-severity Code Injection (CWE-94) vulnerability in Apple (inferred from references). Its CVSS base score is 9.3 (Critical).
Operationally, ranked in the top 1.5% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog; a public proof-of-concept is referenced.
Deeper analysis
CVE-2025-34089 is an unauthenticated remote code execution flaw in Remote for Mac, a macOS remote-control utility from Aexol Studio, affecting all versions through 2025.7. When the application is configured with the "Allow unknown devices" option enabled, the /api/executeScript endpoint accepts unauthenticated requests and processes arbitrary AppleScript supplied in the X-Script HTTP header, which is then executed via do shell script.
Remote attackers can reach the endpoint over the network and supply malicious payloads that execute with the privileges of the Remote for Mac background process, resulting in full command execution on the host. No authentication or user interaction is required when the insecure configuration is active.
Public exploit code is available, including a Metasploit module, and detailed analysis appears in the VulnCheck advisory and Packet Storm disclosure. The EPSS score currently stands at 0.6606, matching its observed peak.

Vulnerability details
An unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability exists in Remote for Mac, a macOS remote control utility developed by Aexol Studio, in versions up to and including 2025.7. When the application is configured with authentication disabled (i.e., the "Allow unknown devices"…

option is enabled), the /api/executeScript endpoint is exposed without access control. This allows unauthenticated remote attackers to inject arbitrary AppleScript payloads via the X-Script HTTP header, resulting in code execution using do shell script. Successful exploitation grants attackers the ability to run arbitrary commands on the macOS host with the privileges of the Remote for Mac background process.

Per-CVE control mapping for this CVE has not run yet; the list below is derived from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry.
Requires established identification and authentication to unlock, mitigating missing authentication for continued system access.
Requiring identification and rationale for actions allowed without authentication ensures critical functions are not left unprotected by forcing review of authentication requirements.
Authorizing mobile device connections to organizational systems ensures authentication is performed for this critical access function.
Guarantees critical functions are protected by mandatory invocation of the access control mechanism.
Auditing sessions makes it possible to detect access to critical functions without required authentication.
The assessment process confirms authentication is present and effective for critical functions, preventing exploitation from missing authentication.
Certification assesses that critical functions have required authentication controls in place.
Disabling non-essential functions and services eliminates the need to secure them, reducing exposure from missing authentication on unnecessary components.
