Summary

CVE-2025-5662 is a critical-severity Deserialization of Untrusted Data (CWE-502) vulnerability. Its CVSS base score is 9.8 (Critical).

Operationally, ranked in the top 13.5% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

This vulnerability is AI-related — categorised as Machine Learning Libraries; in the Supply Chain and Deployment risk domain.

Deeper analysis

A deserialization vulnerability exists in the H2O-3 REST API endpoint POST /99/ImportSQLTable that affects all versions up to 3.46.0.7. The flaw stems from improper validation of JDBC connection parameters supplied in Key-Value format and is tied to the MySQL JDBC Driver version 8.0.19 running on JDK 8u112, corresponding to CWE-502. It carries a CVSS 3.0 score of 9.8 and permits remote code execution.

An unauthenticated attacker with network access can submit a crafted request to the endpoint and achieve arbitrary code execution on the server. The attack requires no user interaction and exploits the deserialization path when the supplied JDBC parameters are processed.

The issue is resolved in H2O-3 version 3.46.0.8, as indicated by the patch commit and the associated bounty disclosure. The current and peak EPSS scores remain at 0.0284 with no material increase observed after disclosure.

Mitigating Controls

Likely Mitigating Controls AI

Per-CVE control mapping for this CVE has not run yet; the list below is derived from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry.

addresses: CWE-502

Penetration testing supplies malicious serialized objects, detecting unsafe deserialization and supporting corrective actions.

addresses: CWE-502

Evaluation of untrusted data handling (deserialization testing) reveals unsafe processing, which the required remediation process addresses.

addresses: CWE-502

Untrusted serialized data can be deserialized and observed inside the chamber, blocking gadget-chain exploitation outside the sandbox.

addresses: CWE-502

Validates or rejects untrusted serialized data before deserialization occurs.

addresses: CWE-502

Identifies and blocks malicious code introduced through deserialization of untrusted data at system boundaries.

addresses: CWE-502

Integrity verification of serialized information can detect tampering before deserialization occurs.

addresses: CWE-502

Provenance of associated data allows detection of untrusted sources before deserialization or processing occurs.
