Summary

CVE-2025-60007 is a medium-severity NULL Pointer Dereference (CWE-476) vulnerability in Juniper Junos. Its CVSS base score is 6.8 (Medium).

Operationally, exploitation aligns with the MITRE ATT&CK technique Application or System Exploitation (T1499.004); ranked at the 3th percentile by exploit likelihood (below the median); it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

The strongest mitigations our analysis identified map to SI-10 (Information Input Validation) and SI-11 (Error Handling) — see the control section below for these in your framework.

Vulnerability Data

A NULL Pointer Dereference vulnerability in the chassis daemon (chassisd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS on MX, SRX and EX Series allows a local attacker with low privileges to cause a Denial-of-Service (DoS). When a user executes the 'show chassis'…

command with specifically crafted options, chassisd will crash and restart. Due to this all components but the Routing Engine (RE) in the chassis are reinitialized, which leads to a complete service outage, which the system automatically recovers from. This issue affects: Junos OS on MX, SRX and EX Series, except MX10000 Series and MX304: * all versions before 22.4R3-S8, * 23.2 versions before 23.2R2-S5, * 23.4 versions before 23.4R2-S6, * 24.2 versions before 24.2R2-S2, * 24.4 versions before 24.4R2.

T1499.004 Application or System Exploitation Impact
Adversaries may exploit software vulnerabilities that can cause an application or system to crash and deny availability to users.
Why these techniques?

NULL pointer dereference in chassisd triggered by crafted local CLI command directly enables application/system exploitation for DoS (T1499.004).

Mitigating Controls (NIST 800-53 r5) AI

prevent

Directly requires validation of command-line inputs to the chassis daemon, blocking the crafted 'show chassis' options that trigger the NULL dereference.

prevent

Mandates graceful error handling so a NULL pointer dereference in chassisd produces a contained fault rather than a daemon crash and chassis reinitialization.

prevent

Requires timely application of vendor patches that eliminate the CWE-476 flaw in the affected Junos releases.
