Summary

CVE-2026-44514 is a medium-severity Missing Origin Validation in WebSockets (CWE-1385) vulnerability. Its CVSS base score is 6.5 (Medium).

Operationally, exploitation aligns with the MITRE ATT&CK technique Exploit Public-Facing Application (T1190); ranked at the 7th percentile by exploit likelihood (below the median); it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

The strongest mitigations our analysis identified map to AC-3 (Access Enforcement) and SI-10 (Information Input Validation) — see the control section below for these in your framework.

Vulnerability Data

Kubetail is a real-time logging dashboard for Kubernetes. Prior to 0.14.0, Kubetail's dashboard exposes WebSocket endpoints that did not adequately validate the Origin header on connection upgrade. A malicious web page visited by a user with an active Kubetail session…

could open a WebSocket to the user's dashboard and read their Kubernetes logs in real time. This is a Cross-Site WebSocket Hijacking (CSWSH) vulnerability and affects both the desktop deployment (default http://localhost:7500) and cluster deployments (typically behind an Ingress with HTTP basic auth). This vulnerability is fixed in 0.14.0.

T1190 Exploit Public-Facing Application Initial Access
Adversaries may attempt to exploit a weakness in an Internet-facing host or system to initially access a network.
Why these techniques?

CSWSH in exposed Kubetail dashboard directly enables exploitation of a public-facing Kubernetes web application for unauthorized log access.

prevent

Directly requires validation of Origin header values on WebSocket upgrade requests to block unauthorized cross-origin connections.

prevent

Enforces access-control policy that only permits WebSocket sessions from authorized origins, preventing CSWSH hijacking of active Kubetail sessions.

prevent

Protects session authenticity by ensuring WebSocket communications originate from the legitimate application rather than a malicious cross-site page.
