Summary

CVE-2026-74880 is a critical-severity Use of HTTP Request With Sensitive Query String (CWE-598) vulnerability in Jahlives Openssl Encrypt. Its CVSS base score is 9.3 (Critical).

Operationally, exploitation aligns with the MITRE ATT&CK technique Network Sniffing (T1040); ranked at the 45th percentile by exploit likelihood (below the median); it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog; a public proof-of-concept is referenced.

The strongest mitigations our analysis identified map to SC-8 (Transmission Confidentiality and Integrity) — see the control section below for these in your framework.

Vulnerability Data

openssl_encrypt versions before 1.4.0 accept refresh tokens as URL query parameters in keyserver and telemetry server routes. Attackers can extract tokens from server logs, proxy logs, browser history, and HTTP Referer headers to gain unauthorized access.

Mitigating Controls (NIST 800-53 r5) AI

Requiring confidentiality and integrity protection for transmitted data reduces exposure of sensitive query parameters even though the control does not forbid placing secrets in URLs.

blocks

HTTPS encryption protects query strings in transit but does not address the root design flaw of placing sensitive data in URLs.

PR.PS-06 partial match
blocks

Secure SDLC practices directly prevent embedding sensitive data in query strings as part of input-handling and data-flow design.

degrades

Network security controls can enforce HTTPS and block sensitive data in URLs.

blocks

A.8.26 only requires that security requirements (including those that could address query-string exposure) be identified and specified during development; it does not itself enforce, implement or stop exploitation of sensitive data in the query string

blocks

Secure architecture principles discourage exposing sensitive data in URLs.

prevents

Secure coding standards directly prohibit placing secrets in query parameters.

finds

Security testing can detect sensitive data leakage via query strings.
