Summary

CVE-2024-8030 is a critical-severity Deserialization of Untrusted Data (CWE-502) vulnerability in Bdthemes Ultimate Store Kit. Its CVSS base score is 9.8 (Critical).

Operationally, ranked in the top 2.6% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

Deeper analysis

The Ultimate Store Kit Elementor Addons plugin for WordPress, including its WooCommerce and EDD builder components, is affected by CVE-2024-8030. The flaw is a PHP Object Injection vulnerability (CWE-502) that stems from unsafe deserialization of untrusted data supplied through the _ultimate_store_kit_wishlist cookie. All versions through 2.0.3 are impacted, and the issue carries a CVSS 3.1 score of 9.8.

An unauthenticated remote attacker can supply a malicious serialized object in the cookie. Although the plugin itself contains no POP chain, the presence of another vulnerable plugin or theme on the same site could allow the injected object to be leveraged for arbitrary file deletion, sensitive-data disclosure, or remote code execution.

A fix is available in the referenced WordPress plugin changeset that updates the helper.php file to prevent untrusted deserialization. Site operators should apply the vendor patch or remove the plugin if it is not required.

The associated EPSS score reached a peak of 0.4440 (current value 0.3869), indicating meaningful post-disclosure exploitation interest.

Per-CVE control mapping for this CVE has not run yet; the list below is derived from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry.

addresses: CWE-502

Penetration testing supplies malicious serialized objects, detecting unsafe deserialization and supporting corrective actions.

addresses: CWE-502

Evaluation of untrusted data handling (deserialization testing) reveals unsafe processing, which the required remediation process addresses.

addresses: CWE-502

Untrusted serialized data can be deserialized and observed inside the chamber, blocking gadget-chain exploitation outside the sandbox.

addresses: CWE-502

Validates or rejects untrusted serialized data before deserialization occurs.

addresses: CWE-502

Identifies and blocks malicious code introduced through deserialization of untrusted data at system boundaries.

addresses: CWE-502

Integrity verification of serialized information can detect tampering before deserialization occurs.

addresses: CWE-502

Provenance of associated data allows detection of untrusted sources before deserialization or processing occurs.
