Summary

CVE-2026-15896 is a critical-severity Path Traversal: '/dir/../filename' (CWE-26) vulnerability in Wordfence (inferred from references). Its CVSS base score is 9.1 (Critical).

Operationally, ranked in the top 42% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

The strongest mitigations our analysis identified map to SI-10 (Information Input Validation) — see the control section below for these in your framework.

Vulnerability Data

The Super Forms – Drag & Drop Form Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Directory Traversal in all versions up to, and including, 6.3.316 via the parse_request function. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to read the contents…

of arbitrary files on the server, which can contain sensitive information. The optional 'file_upload_auth' setting defaults to empty, meaning no authentication is required in the default configuration; enabling this setting mitigates unauthenticated exploitation but does not remediate the path traversal itself. Exploitation on Linux requires a real 13-digit timestamp directory to exist, whereas on Windows the traversal works with any hardcoded 13-digit prefix. However, the plugin's file upload response returns the name of the created directory, which means the vulnerability is exploitable as long as file upload is enabled on the form.

Input validation structurally stops untrusted path sequences from being used to construct filenames that escape the intended directory.

Hardened configuration baselines can enforce directory restrictions that reduce exploitability.

Secure SDLC practices directly require input validation and path sanitization that prevent this weakness.

blocks

Secure development lifecycle mandates input validation and path canonicalization that directly prevent directory traversal sequences.

blocks

A.8.26 only requires that security requirements (including resilience against SQLi or buffer overflows) be identified and specified during development or acquisition; it does not itself neutralize path traversal sequences or stop exploitation of CWE-26.

blocks

Secure architecture principles reduce the attack surface but do not prescribe the specific coding fix.

prevents

Secure coding standards require neutralizing '../' sequences and canonicalizing paths before file operations.
