Summary

CVE-2026-53528 is a high-severity Relative Path Traversal (CWE-23) vulnerability. Its CVSS base score is 8.8 (High).

Operationally, ranked at the 45th percentile by exploit likelihood (below the median); it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

The strongest mitigations our analysis identified map to SI-10 (Information Input Validation) and AC-3 (Access Enforcement) — see the control section below for these in your framework.

Vulnerability Data

LeafWiki is a self-hosted wiki. Versions 0.3.0 through 0.10.0 have a path traversal vulnerability in LeafWiki’s asset rename functionality. An authenticated user with editor permissions could move files that are accessible to the LeafWiki server process into a page’s asset…

directory. This could allow sensitive local files, such as the application database, to become downloadable as page assets. Users should update to version 0.10.1 or greater. As an additional mitigation, operators should ensure that the LeafWiki process runs with the least privileges necessary and does not have filesystem access to sensitive files outside the application’s required directories. Until a patch is applied, operators may reduce risk by restricting editor access to trusted users only and by limiting the filesystem permissions of the LeafWiki process.

Mitigating Controls (NIST 800-53 r5) AI

Explicit validation of path inputs stops .. sequences from ever being interpreted by the file system.

Access enforcement directly blocks unauthorized file reads/writes that result from unresolved .. sequences.

Information-flow rules can be configured to reject traversals that would move data outside an approved directory boundary.

Least privilege reduces the set of reachable files even when a traversal succeeds.

Secure-engineering principles require safe pathname construction and input neutralization before any file operation.

Secure SDLC practices directly require input validation and path sanitization that prevent relative traversal.

finds

Security testing in development catches path traversal via static/dynamic analysis, but does not itself implement the fix.

prevents

Secure coding standards require neutralizing path traversal sequences, directly addressing CWE-23.
