Summary

CVE-2026-8063 is a high-severity NULL Pointer Dereference (CWE-476) vulnerability in Mongodb Mongodb. Its CVSS base score is 7.1 (High).

Operationally, exploitation aligns with the MITRE ATT&CK technique Application or System Exploitation (T1499.004); ranked at the 14th percentile by exploit likelihood (below the median); it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

The strongest mitigations our analysis identified map to SI-10 (Information Input Validation) and SI-2 (Flaw Remediation) — see the control section below for these in your framework.

Vulnerability Data

An authenticated user can crash mongod when running $rankFusion or $scoreFusion with an empty pipeline on a view. When resolving a view, the server inspects the aggregation pipeline to determine whether it begins with an Atlas Search stage. For $rankFusion…

and $scoreFusion, this inspection reads the first element on each stage’s input pipeline array without first verifying that the array is non-empty. Supplying an empty pipeline causes a null pointer dereference and crashes the server. This issue affects MongoDB Server 8.2 versions prior to 8.2.7.

Mitigating Controls (NIST 800-53 r5) AI

prevent

Directly enforces validation of aggregation pipeline arrays to reject empty inputs before dereference in $rankFusion/$scoreFusion view resolution.

prevent

Requires prompt application of the vendor fix (8.2.7+) that adds the missing non-empty check for pipeline arrays.

prevent

Restricts which authenticated users may execute aggregation pipelines against views, reducing the population able to supply the malicious empty pipeline.
