Summary
CVE-2026-82055 is a high-severity NULL Pointer Dereference (CWE-476) vulnerability in Mongodb. Its CVSS base score is 7.1 (High).
Operationally, exploitation aligns with the MITRE ATT&CK technique Exploitation for Privilege Escalation (T1068); ranked at the 35th percentile by exploit likelihood (below the median); it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.
The strongest mitigations our analysis identified map to SA-11 (Developer Testing and Evaluation) and SA-15 (Development Process, Standards, and Tools) — see the control section below for these in your framework.

Vulnerability Data
A security issue exists in MongoDB's 2dsphere index key generation that can cause a server crash due to a null pointer dereference. When a specially crafted GeoJSON document is inserted into a collection with a 2dsphere index, an inconsistency in…

geometry parsing can leave an internal object in an invalid, partially initialized state. During subsequent index key generation, access to this improperly initialized object results in a null pointer dereference that terminates the mongod process. An authenticated user with write access can use this to cause a denial of service.

Our mappings, made for this CVE.
Developer testing and evaluation (including static analysis) directly finds null-dereference bugs before deployment.
Documented development standards and tools can enforce null-safety rules and safe pointer usage.
Engineering principles can mandate defensive coding such as explicit null checks before dereference.
Mitigating Controls (NIST CSF 2.0)
Our mappings, derived directly from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry via our CWE→CSF cross-walk — links open the control.
Secure SDLC practices (static analysis, code review, safe coding standards) directly prevent NULL dereference bugs during development.
