Summary

CVE-2023-25763 is a medium-severity Cross-site Scripting (CWE-79) vulnerability in Jenkins Email Extension. Its CVSS base score is 5.4 (Medium).

Operationally, ranked in the top 4.3% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

Deeper analysis

Jenkins Email Extension Plugin 2.93 and earlier contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability because the plugin does not escape various fields included in its bundled email templates. The affected component is the Jenkins Email Extension Plugin, which processes these unescaped fields when generating notifications.

Attackers who can control the affected fields are able to inject malicious scripts that execute in the browsers of users viewing the resulting emails or related Jenkins pages. Successful exploitation yields limited impact on confidentiality and integrity with no availability effect, consistent with the reported CVSS 5.4 vector requiring low-privileged access and user interaction.

Advisories published by the Jenkins project and coordinated through the oss-security mailing list on 2023-02-15 address the issue under identifier SECURITY-2931 and recommend applying the corresponding plugin update. The EPSS score has remained flat at a peak of 0.2059 with no material increase observed after disclosure.
