Deeper analysis

The SV100 Companion plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized modification of data that can lead to privilege escalation due to a missing capability check on the settings_import() function in all versions up to and including 2.0.02. This flaw, tracked as CWE-862 and carrying a CVSS score of 9.8, allows unauthenticated attackers to update arbitrary WordPress options on the site. CVE-2024-54229 is noted as a possible duplicate.

Unauthenticated attackers can exploit the issue over the network to change site configuration values. In particular, they can set the default user registration role to administrator and enable open registration, after which they register an account that receives full administrative privileges on the affected WordPress installation.

The two referenced sources consist of the vulnerable code path in the plugin repository and a Wordfence threat-intel entry; neither supplies explicit patch or mitigation guidance in the available information. The EPSS score has remained flat at 0.0561 with no material increase since disclosure.
