Summary
CVE-2026-16001 is a high-severity Improper Validation of Integrity Check Value (CWE-354) vulnerability. Its CVSS base score is 8.2 (High).
Operationally, exploitation aligns with the MITRE ATT&CK technique OS Credential Dumping (T1003); ranked at the 6th percentile by exploit likelihood (below the median); it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.
The strongest mitigations our analysis identified map to SC-13 (Cryptographic Protection) and SC-8 (Transmission Confidentiality and Integrity) — see the control section below for these in your framework.

Vulnerability Data
Exposure of the message authentication key through the encryption keystream in the stream mode of IesEngine (an IesEngine constructed without a block cipher) in Legion of the Bouncy Castle Inc. bc-csharp before 2.7.0 allows a remote attacker who has observed…
more
one encrypted message with known plaintext to forge shorter messages of their choosing that the recipient accepts as authentic, via a crafted ciphertext and MAC tag, because the MAC key was taken from the key derivation output directly after a keystream as long as the message, while the derivation input depends only on the static key pair and fixed parameters. The keystream revealed by that one message therefore contains the MAC key for every sufficiently shorter message.

Mitigating Controls (NIST 800-53 r5) AI
Mandates cryptographic mechanisms that include integrity protection, preventing improper checksum validation.
Requires protection of transmitted information integrity, directly mandating correct validation of integrity checks.
Requires integrity verification tools that detect unauthorized changes when checksum validation is missing or flawed.
Mitigating Controls (NIST CSF 2.0) AI
Derived directly from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry via our AI-authored CWE→CSF cross-walk (authority under review) — links open the control.
Mandates pre-acquisition integrity assessment, addressing only the initial portion of the weakness lifecycle.
Requires cryptographic hashes and signatures that directly enforce integrity-check validation for data at rest.
Requires cryptographic hashes and signatures that directly enforce integrity-check validation for data in transit.
Requires verification of backup integrity, covering validation only within recovery scenarios.
Mitigating Controls (ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Annex A) AI
Derived directly from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry via our AI-authored CWE→ISO cross-walk (authority under review) — links open the control.
