Summary
CVE-2026-61742 is a critical-severity Missing Authentication for Critical Function (CWE-306) vulnerability. Its CVSS base score is 9.3 (Critical).
Operationally, exploitation aligns with the MITRE ATT&CK technique ARP Cache Poisoning (T1557.002); ranked at the 9th percentile by exploit likelihood (below the median); it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.
This vulnerability is AI-related — categorised as AI Agent Protocols and Integrations; in the LLM/Generative AI Risks risk domain.
The strongest mitigations our analysis identified map to AC-14 (Permitted Actions Without Identification or Authentication) and AC-3 (Access Enforcement) — see the control section below for these in your framework.

Vulnerability Data
DBHub is a database MCP server for Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, MariaDB, SQLite. Versions prior to 0.22.5 expose an unauthenticated HTTP MCP endpoint when started with the documented HTTP transport mode, for example `--transport http --port 8080`. The HTTP…

server attempts to protect browser-origin access by checking whether the `Origin` hostname equals the `Host` hostname, then reflecting the validated `Origin` into `Access-Control-Allow-Origin`. This does not stop DNS rebinding. After an attacker-controlled hostname rebinds to a victim-accessible DBHub HTTP server, both `Origin` and `Host` can contain the attacker-controlled hostname, so DBHub accepts the request and dispatches MCP tool calls. As a result, a malicious website can deterministically invoke DBHub MCP tools from the victim's browser without prompt injection or model involvement. With the default demo configuration this can read and write the demo SQLite database; with a real configured database, the same primitive can read, enumerate, and potentially write database contents depending on DBHub's configured tool permissions and database credentials. Version 0.22.5 fixes the issue.

Mitigating Controls (NIST 800-53 r5) AI
Explicitly identifies and limits actions permitted without authentication, preventing critical functions from being exposed.
Access enforcement requires prior authentication before any authorization decision for critical functions.
Information flow enforcement directly requires validating the source of data before allowing transmission or receipt.
Directly mandates unique identification and authentication of users before access to functions requiring identity.
Device identification and authentication mandates verifying the source before establishing connections.
Extends the same authentication requirement to non-organizational users accessing critical functionality.
Mitigating Controls (NIST CSF 2.0) AI
Derived directly from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry via our AI-authored CWE→CSF cross-walk (authority under review) — links open the control.
Documenting authorized flows supports origin validation by defining expected sources.
Managing identities and credentials is a prerequisite for authentication but does not itself enforce it on critical functions.
Directly requires authentication of users/services/hardware, which eliminates missing authentication for critical functions.
Verifying identity assertions enforces origin validation for conveyed claims.
Defining and enforcing authorizations assumes prior authentication and therefore only partially mitigates the absence of authentication.
Protecting networks from unauthorized access can be undermined by missing authentication but does not address the root authentication gap.
Mitigating Controls (ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Annex A) AI
Derived directly from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry via our AI-authored CWE→ISO cross-walk (authority under review) — links open the control.
Mandating authentication requirements for critical functions at the requirements-gathering stage ensures that essential operations are not left unprotected by missing login or verification mechanisms.
Network security controls enforce origin validation at network boundaries.
Mandating authentication for network services and critical functions stops attackers from invoking sensitive operations without credentials, closing gaps where authentication is absent for important capabilities.
Network segregation reduces exposure but does not directly validate origins.
Application security requirements explicitly call for origin validation of inputs and communications.
