Summary

CVE-2022-0513 is a critical-severity SQL Injection (CWE-89) vulnerability in Veronalabs Wp Statistics. Its CVSS base score is 9.8 (Critical).

Operationally, ranked in the top 3.4% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog; a public proof-of-concept is referenced.

Deeper analysis

The WP Statistics WordPress plugin is vulnerable to unauthenticated SQL injection caused by insufficient escaping and parameterization of the exclusion_reason parameter in the class-wp-statistics-exclusion.php file. The flaw affects all versions through 13.1.4 and is exploitable only when the Record Exclusions option is enabled on the target site. The issue is tracked as CWE-89 and carries a CVSS 3.1 score of 9.8.

An unauthenticated attacker can supply a crafted exclusion_reason value that is processed by the plugin’s hit-recording logic, allowing arbitrary SQL queries against the WordPress database. Successful exploitation can disclose sensitive information and, given the CVSS impact metrics, may also permit modification or deletion of data.

Public advisories from Wordfence and the plugin’s Trac repository indicate that the vulnerability was addressed in changeset 2671297, which updates the hits-handling code to properly sanitize and parameterize the input. Site owners are advised to update to a patched release of the plugin.

EPSS for this CVE rose from a low baseline to a peak of 0.3269 (currently 0.2770), indicating that meaningful exploitation interest developed after disclosure.
