Summary

CVE-2022-21337 is a medium-severity an unspecified weakness vulnerability in Oracle Mysql. Its CVSS base score is 6.3 (Medium).

Operationally, ranked in the top 6.2% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

Deeper analysis

CVE-2022-21337 affects the Cluster: General component of Oracle MySQL Cluster in versions 7.4.34 and earlier, 7.5.24 and earlier, 7.6.20 and earlier, and 8.0.27 and earlier. It is a difficult-to-exploit flaw that requires an attacker to be high-privileged and already present on the same physical network segment as the target hardware, plus human interaction from another user, before a successful compromise can lead to full takeover of the MySQL Cluster instance.

An attacker meeting those prerequisites can achieve complete control over confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected cluster. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:A/AC:H/PR:H/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H) reflects the combination of adjacent-network access, high attack complexity, and the need for a second party’s participation.

Oracle’s January 2022 Critical Patch Update and related NetApp advisories direct customers to apply the fixes released for the supported MySQL Cluster releases; the Zero Day Initiative entry ZDI-22-122 provides additional technical context on the issue.

The associated EPSS score has remained flat at 0.1143 with no material post-disclosure increase.
