Deeper analysis
The vulnerability is present in the matchmaking servers of Bandai Namco FromSoftware Dark Souls III through 2022-03-19. It stems from the RequestSendMessageToPlayers functionality, which permits remote attackers to issue arbitrary push requests to connected clients; the only control preventing such requests is enforced solely on the client side and can therefore be bypassed.
An attacker who connects with a modified client can exploit the flaw to deliver push messages to hundreds of thousands of game clients. The issue carries a CVSS 3.1 score of 8.8, reflecting network attack vector, low complexity, and the potential for high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
Public references consist of the vendor site and a GitHub repository containing proof-of-concept material; no vendor advisory or patch information is included among them. The associated EPSS score has remained flat at 0.0909 with no material increase after disclosure.
