Deeper analysis
CVE-2022-25216 is an absolute path traversal vulnerability affecting DVDFab 12 Player, later renamed PlayerFab. The flaw resides in the software's HTTP service listening on TCP port 32080 and permits retrieval of arbitrary files from the underlying Windows filesystem for which the running user account holds read access, triggered by an HTTP GET request to a URL of the form http://<IP_ADDRESS>:32080/download/<URL_ENCODED_PATH>.
An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit the issue over the network by supplying a suitably encoded absolute path in the request, resulting in disclosure of sensitive file contents without any user interaction or privileges. The vulnerability carries a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.5 reflecting network attack vector, low complexity, and high confidentiality impact.
