Summary

CVE-2022-32526 is a critical-severity Classic Buffer Overflow (CWE-120) vulnerability in Schneider-Electric Interactive Graphical Scada System. Its CVSS base score is 9.8 (Critical).

Operationally, ranked in the top 14.0% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

Deeper analysis

A CWE-120 buffer copy vulnerability without size checks affects the IGSS Data Server component IGSSdataServer.exe in versions prior to V15.0.0.22170. The flaw permits a stack-based buffer overflow when the server processes specially crafted setting value messages, which can result in remote code execution.

An unauthenticated attacker with network access can send malicious messages to trigger the overflow. Successful exploitation grants full control over the affected server, allowing arbitrary code execution with impacts on confidentiality, integrity, and availability as reflected in the CVSS 9.8 score.

Schneider Electric advisory SEVD-2022-165-01 directs users to upgrade IGSS Data Server to version 15.0.0.22170 or later to address the issue. The associated EPSS score reached a peak of 0.0567 but has since receded to 0.0260 without evidence of sustained exploitation interest.
