Deeper analysis

CVE-2022-33204 is an OS command injection vulnerability affecting the web interface of the Abode Systems iota All-In-One Security Kit running firmware versions 6.9X and 6.9Z. The flaw resides in the /action/wirelessConnect endpoint and stems from unsafe handling of the ssid_hex HTTP parameter when constructing commands inside the /root/hpgw binary at offset 0x19afc0; four related injection issues were identified in the same functionality. The vulnerability carries a CVSS 3.1 score of 9.9 and is classified under CWE-78.

An authenticated attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request to the device over the network and achieve arbitrary command execution with high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Because the attack requires valid credentials but no user interaction and can cross security boundaries, successful exploitation grants the attacker full control over the affected security kit.

The EPSS score has remained low with only minor fluctuation between its recorded peak of 0.0537 and current value of 0.0472, providing no indication of emerging exploitation interest.

Per-CVE control mapping for this CVE has not run yet; the list below is derived from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry.

addresses: CWE-78

Platform-independent apps typically execute inside a managed runtime or sandbox that restricts direct OS command execution, reducing the ability to exploit OS command injection.

addresses: CWE-78

Validates inputs to block special elements that would alter OS command execution.
