Summary

CVE-2022-33205 is a critical-severity OS Command Injection (CWE-78) vulnerability in Goabode Iota All-In-One Security Kit Firmware. Its CVSS base score is 9.9 (Critical).

Operationally, ranked in the top 10.4% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog; a public proof-of-concept is referenced.

Deeper analysis

CVE-2022-33205 is an OS command injection vulnerability (CWE-78) residing in the web interface /action/wirelessConnect endpoint of the Abode Systems iota All-In-One Security Kit running firmware versions 6.9X and 6.9Z. The flaw stems from unsafe handling of the wpapsk_hex HTTP parameter when constructing OS commands inside the /root/hpgw binary at offset 0x19b0ac, allowing four related injection points that can be reached over the network.

An authenticated attacker can submit a crafted HTTP request to the affected endpoint and achieve arbitrary command execution on the device with high impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The CVSS 9.9 vector reflects network attack reachability, low complexity, low privileges required, and no user interaction, with the compromised device able to affect other components in its security context.

The referenced Talos reports provide the technical analysis of the four injection variants but do not detail vendor patches or configuration mitigations in the supplied information. The associated EPSS scores have remained low and essentially flat since disclosure.

Per-CVE control mapping for this CVE has not run yet; the list below is derived from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry.

addresses: CWE-78

Platform-independent apps typically execute inside a managed runtime or sandbox that restricts direct OS command execution, reducing the ability to exploit OS command injection.

addresses: CWE-78

Validates inputs to block special elements that would alter OS command execution.
