Published: 11 January 2024
Summary
CVE-2023-6567 is a critical-severity SQL Injection (CWE-89) vulnerability in Thimpress Learnpress. Its CVSS base score is 9.8 (Critical).

Deeper analysis
The LearnPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to time-based SQL injection via the order_by parameter in all versions through 4.2.5.7. The flaw stems from insufficient escaping of user-supplied input and missing prepared-statement handling in an existing SQL query, allowing an attacker to alter query logic and retrieve arbitrary database contents.
Unauthenticated remote attackers can exploit the issue over the network by supplying a crafted order_by value in plugin requests. Successful exploitation yields full read access to sensitive database information and, given the CVSS 9.8 rating, can also lead to modification or deletion of data.
The referenced Wordfence advisory and WordPress plugin changeset 3013957 document the fix; site operators should apply the patched version of LearnPress immediately and verify that the order_by parameter is no longer processed without proper sanitization. The associated EPSS score remains elevated near 0.82–0.84.
