CVE-2025-1980
Published: 16 April 2025
Summary
CVE-2025-1980 is a critical-severity Unrestricted Upload of File with Dangerous Type (CWE-434) vulnerability in Cert (inferred from references). Its CVSS base score is 9.4 (Critical).
Operationally, ranked in the top 15.2% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.
Deeper analysis
The Ready_ application is affected by an unrestricted file upload vulnerability in its Profile section, tracked as CVE-2025-1980 and assigned CWE-434. The component permits users to upload files of arbitrary type and extension with no server-side validation. When the application runs under the default configuration present in installations performed around the turn of 2021–2022, this flaw enables remote code execution on the underlying server.
An authenticated attacker with low privileges can exploit the issue over the network by uploading a malicious file that the misconfigured server will subsequently execute. Successful exploitation grants the attacker full control over the affected system, including the ability to read, modify, or delete data and to pivot further within the environment. The CVSS 4.0 score of 9.4 reflects the combination of network attack vector, low attack complexity, and high impact across confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
Public advisories published by CERT.pl on 16 April 2025 describe the required configuration changes that close the exposure and direct administrators to the vendor site ready-os.com for updated guidance. The current EPSS score of 0.0220, with a recorded peak of only 0.0277, indicates limited observed exploitation interest to date.

Per-CVE control mapping for this CVE has not run yet; the list below is derived from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry.
Requiring identifiable owners for portable devices reduces the attack surface for unrestricted uploads of dangerous file types via anonymous media.
Dangerous file uploads can be detonated in the chamber to determine malice before any production write or execution occurs.
Prevents unrestricted writing of arbitrary or malicious firmware by keeping hardware write-protect enabled except under tightly controlled manual procedures.
Scans files from external sources on download/open/execute, blocking unrestricted uploads of dangerous file types.
