Vulnerability Data

AliasVault is a privacy-first password manager with built-in email aliasing. Prior to 0.29.4, the AliasVault browser extension passkey provider does not bind passkey requests to the actual webpage origin or verify that the requested relying-party identifier matches the current website.…

more

A malicious website can provide forged origin and relying-party values and, if a victim with a matching stored passkey approves the AliasVault passkey prompt, obtain a valid assertion for a different website. Exploitation requires the extension to be installed, unlocked, and configured as a passkey provider, requires a stored passkey for the impersonated site, and cannot occur silently because the victim must approve the prompt. The server, web application, and mobile applications are not affected. This issue is fixed in version 0.29.4.

Likely Mitigating Controls AI

Per-CVE control mapping for this CVE has not run yet; the list below is derived from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry.

addresses: CWE-346

Requires unique identification of the service before communications, addressing failures to validate the origin of the interaction.

addresses: CWE-346

Trusted path establishment enforces validation that the communication originates from and reaches only the intended trusted system components.

addresses: CWE-346

Enforces validation of the true origin of DNS responses via signatures and chain-of-trust mechanisms.

addresses: CWE-346

Enforces origin validation of name/address data, eliminating reliance on unverified or impersonated DNS sources.

addresses: CWE-346

Mandates origin validation so that only legitimate endpoints can continue the authenticated session.

prevents

Secure coding practices include implementing proper origin validation to prevent spoofing.

Hardening callouts derived

DISA STIG baselines are authored against specific weaknesses. Where this CVE cites a broad weakness class, the mapping is not asserted at that abstraction (owner ruling, 2026-09-25: grade only at Base and below), so no rule is shown here rather than a rule shown against the wrong grain.

  • No fine-grained STIG row for CWE-346, a class-level weakness, and none of its children carries one either.
