Deeper analysis

A cross-site scripting vulnerability exists in the footer alerts functionality of WWBN AVideo version 11.6 and development master commit 3f7c0364. The issue stems from insufficient sanitization of the "toast" parameter, which is inserted directly into the document and enables arbitrary JavaScript execution when processed. The flaw is tracked as CWE-79 with a CVSS 3.1 score of 6.1.

An unauthenticated attacker can supply a specially crafted HTTP request containing malicious JavaScript in the toast parameter. If an authenticated user is induced to submit or view the request, the script executes in the user's browser context, allowing actions such as session token theft or interface manipulation within the application's origin.

The referenced Talos advisory TALOS-2022-1538 and the AVideo updateDb.v12.0.sql script document the remediation steps applied in the v12.0 database update.

EPSS scores have remained in a narrow band between 0.1442 and a peak of 0.1624 with no pronounced post-disclosure climb.
