Summary

CVE-2022-3384 is a high-severity Code Injection (CWE-94) vulnerability in Ultimatemember Ultimate Member. Its CVSS base score is 7.2 (High).

Operationally, ranked in the top 2.7% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog; a public proof-of-concept is referenced.

Deeper analysis

The Ultimate Member plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to remote code execution in versions up to and including 2.5.0. The flaw resides in the populate_dropdown_options function, which accepts attacker-controlled input and passes it directly to call_user_func(), enabling invocation of non-parameter PHP functions such as phpinfo(). The issue is tracked as CWE-94 and carries a CVSS 3.1 score of 7.2.

An authenticated attacker with administrative privileges can supply a function name via the affected parameter and trigger code execution on the underlying server. Because parameters cannot be passed to the invoked function, the impact is limited to functions that require no arguments, yet this is still sufficient to achieve arbitrary code execution in the WordPress context.

Public references point to a WordPress plugin changeset that resolves the vulnerability and to Wordfence advisories that recommend immediate update. Administrators should apply the patched version of Ultimate Member and verify that administrative accounts are restricted to trusted users.

The EPSS score is currently 0.3837 with no material rise after disclosure. No evidence of in-the-wild exploitation is noted in the supplied references.

like phpinfo(); since user supplied parameters are not passed through the function. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with administrative privileges, to execute code on the server.

Per-CVE control mapping for this CVE has not run yet; the list below is derived from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry.

addresses: CWE-94

Makes persistent code injection into loaded programs impossible when the executable image itself resides on hardware-protected read-only media.

addresses: CWE-94

Dynamically generated code can be produced and executed inside the isolated chamber, preventing host compromise from code-injection payloads.

addresses: CWE-94

Validates inputs used in dynamic code generation to block injected directives.

addresses: CWE-94

Directly prevents execution of attacker-supplied code written into data memory regions.
