Summary

CVE-2022-34193 is a medium-severity Cross-site Scripting (CWE-79) vulnerability in Jenkins Package Version. Its CVSS base score is 5.4 (Medium).

Operationally, ranked in the top 3.3% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

Deeper analysis

Jenkins Package Version Plugin 1.0.1 and earlier for Jenkins contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability because it fails to escape the names of Package version parameters when rendering views that display parameters. The affected component is the Jenkins plugin responsible for handling these parameter types in job configurations and build views.

Attackers who possess Item/Configure permission on a Jenkins item can supply a malicious parameter name that is persisted and later executed in the browsers of other users who view the parameter display pages, allowing theft of sensitive information or actions within the Jenkins instance under the victim's privileges.

The Jenkins security advisory published on 2022-06-22 describes the issue under SECURITY-2784 and directs administrators to update the Package Version Plugin to a version that properly escapes parameter names. No other mitigation steps such as workarounds are specified in the referenced advisory.
