Deeper analysis
The Best WordPress Gallery Plugin – FooGallery for WordPress is affected by a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability (CWE-79) in all versions through 2.4.15. The flaw resides in the handling of album gallery custom URLs, where insufficient input sanitization and output escaping allow script injection that persists and executes in the context of other users' browsers. The issue carries a CVSS 3.1 score of 6.4.
Authenticated users with contributor-level privileges or higher can exploit the weakness by supplying a crafted custom URL that stores malicious JavaScript. When any visitor subsequently accesses a page containing the injected album, the script executes with the privileges of that visitor, enabling actions such as session hijacking or unauthorized content modification within the site’s origin.
Public references point to a patched changeset (3100157) in the plugin’s WordPress Trac repository and to Wordfence advisory details that identify the affected versions and confirm the availability of the fix. The EPSS score has remained flat at 0.0510 since disclosure, indicating no material increase in observed exploitation interest.
