Summary

CVE-2024-4371 is a critical-severity Deserialization of Untrusted Data (CWE-502) vulnerability in Codexpert Codesigner. Its CVSS base score is 9.0 (Critical).

Operationally, ranked in the top 9.7% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

Deeper analysis

The CoDesigner WooCommerce Builder for Elementor plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to PHP Object Injection in all versions through 4.4.1. The flaw stems from unsafe deserialization of untrusted data supplied in the recently_viewed_products cookie, allowing an attacker to instantiate arbitrary PHP objects. The issue is tracked as CWE-502 and carries a CVSS 3.1 score of 9.0.

Unauthenticated remote attackers can supply a crafted cookie to inject a PHP object. Although the plugin itself contains no usable POP chain, the presence of an additional vulnerable plugin or theme on the same site could enable the attacker to delete arbitrary files, read sensitive data, or achieve remote code execution.

Wordfence and the plugin’s WordPress Trac records indicate that version 4.4.2 addresses the vulnerability by removing the unsafe deserialization path. Site owners are advised to update immediately; no other mitigations such as WAF rules or configuration changes are specified in the available advisories. The associated EPSS score remains low at 0.0538 with no material increase since disclosure.

more

This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject a PHP Object. No known POP chain is present in the vulnerable plugin. If a POP chain is present via an additional plugin or theme installed on the target system, it could allow the attacker to delete arbitrary files, retrieve sensitive data, or execute code.

Likely Mitigating Controls AI

Per-CVE control mapping for this CVE has not run yet; the list below is derived from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry.

addresses: CWE-502

Penetration testing supplies malicious serialized objects, detecting unsafe deserialization and supporting corrective actions.

addresses: CWE-502

Evaluation of untrusted data handling (deserialization testing) reveals unsafe processing, which the required remediation process addresses.

addresses: CWE-502

Untrusted serialized data can be deserialized and observed inside the chamber, blocking gadget-chain exploitation outside the sandbox.

addresses: CWE-502

Validates or rejects untrusted serialized data before deserialization occurs.

addresses: CWE-502

Identifies and blocks malicious code introduced through deserialization of untrusted data at system boundaries.

addresses: CWE-502

Integrity verification of serialized information can detect tampering before deserialization occurs.

addresses: CWE-502

Provenance of associated data allows detection of untrusted sources before deserialization or processing occurs.
