Summary

CVE-2024-47525 is a high-severity Cross-site Scripting (CWE-79) vulnerability in Librenms Librenms. Its CVSS base score is 7.5 (High).

Operationally, ranked in the top 8.1% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog; a public proof-of-concept is referenced.

Deeper analysis

LibreNMS, an open-source PHP/MySQL/SNMP-based network monitoring system, contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability tracked as CVE-2024-47525 and assigned CWE-79. The flaw resides in the Alert Rules feature, where the Title field fails to sanitize input, allowing injection of arbitrary JavaScript that is later rendered and executed when other users view the affected rules.

An authenticated user with privileges to create or edit alert rules can supply malicious JavaScript in the Title field. Because the payload is stored and served to other sessions, it executes in the context of those users, enabling account compromise or unauthorized actions within the application. The CVSS 7.5 score reflects network attack vector, low attack complexity, high privileges required, and changed scope with high confidentiality impact.

The project security advisory GHSA-j2j9-7pr6-xqwv and the associated commit 7620d220e48563938d869da7689b8ac3f7721490 indicate the issue is resolved in version 24.9.0. Administrators should upgrade to that release or apply the referenced patch to the print-alert-rules.php component. The EPSS score has remained flat at 0.0736 with no observed rise after disclosure.
