Deeper analysis

LibreNMS is an open-source PHP/MySQL/SNMP-based network monitoring system affected by a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability (CWE-79) in its API-Access page. The flaw resides in the handling of the "token" parameter during creation of new API tokens, allowing injection of arbitrary JavaScript that persists and executes in the context of other users' sessions.

Authenticated users with the ability to create API tokens can exploit the issue by supplying malicious payloads in the token field. Successful attacks result in execution of attacker-controlled code under the privileges of victim accounts, enabling actions such as account compromise or unauthorized operations within the monitoring platform. The vulnerability carries a CVSS 3.1 score of 7.5.

The issue is addressed in LibreNMS version 24.10.0, as detailed in the project's security advisory GHSA-gfwr-xqmj-j27v and the associated commit that sanitizes token input. The EPSS score stands at 0.1198 with a recorded peak of 0.1430, indicating moderate and slightly elevated exploitation interest following disclosure.
