Summary

CVE-2026-45796 is a medium-severity SSRF (CWE-918) vulnerability in Coder Coder. Its CVSS base score is 6.5 (Medium).

Operationally, exploitation aligns with the MITRE ATT&CK technique Exploit Public-Facing Application (T1190); ranked at the 26th percentile by exploit likelihood (below the median); it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

The strongest mitigations our analysis identified map to AC-3 (Access Enforcement) and SC-7 (Boundary Protection) — see the control section below for these in your framework.

Vulnerability Data

Coder allows organizations to provision remote development environments via Terraform. Versions prior tp 2.24.5, 2.29.13, 2.30.8, 2.31.12, 2.32.2, and 2.33.3 are vulnerable to unauthenticated semi-blind Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) via the Azure instance identity endpoint (`POST /api/v2/workspaceagents/azure-instance-identity`). An external attacker…

more

can force the Coder server to issue HTTP GET requests to arbitrary internal or external hosts by submitting a crafted PKCS#7 signature. The server does not return the target's response body, but error messages in the API response reveal whether the target is reachable and what type of failure occurred. Versions 2.24.5, 2.29.13, 2.30.8, 2.31.12, 2.32.2, and 2.33.3 patch the issue. As a workaround, if the Azure identity-auth mechanism is not being used then restrict access to the corresponding endpoint (`/api/v2/workspaceagents/azure-instance-identity`) using ingress firewall and/or proxy ACLs.

T1190 Exploit Public-Facing Application Initial Access
Adversaries may attempt to exploit a weakness in an Internet-facing host or system to initially access a network.
Why these techniques?

Unauthenticated SSRF via a public API endpoint allows an external attacker to force the server to issue requests to arbitrary internal or external hosts, directly mapping to T1190 (Exploit Public-Facing Application).

Mitigating Controls (NIST 800-53 r5) AI

prevent

Boundary Protection can block unauthenticated external requests to the azure-instance-identity endpoint before the SSRF can be triggered.

prevent

Access Enforcement can require authentication and authorization on the azure-instance-identity endpoint, directly stopping the unauthenticated SSRF vector.

prevent

Information Input Validation can reject malformed PKCS#7 signatures before the server performs the SSRF request.
