Deeper analysis
This vulnerability is an unauthenticated SQL injection flaw, tracked as CWE-89, that affects Ivanti Avalanche version 6.3.2.3490. The issue resides in the GroupDaoImpl class, where a crafted request can cause the application to build and execute SQL queries directly from attacker-supplied input, enabling authentication bypass on the server.
Remote attackers without credentials can exploit the flaw over the network by sending specially formed requests that manipulate the SQL logic. Successful exploitation grants the attacker the ability to bypass authentication entirely, after which they can achieve full compromise of the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system, consistent with the CVSS 9.8 rating.
Public advisories from the Zero Day Initiative (ZDI-22-781) and the vendor release notes for Avalanche 6.3.4 indicate that the issue is resolved by upgrading to version 6.3.4 or later. The EPSS score has remained flat at 0.3091 with no material increase since disclosure.
