A command injection vulnerability exists in the getAudioMetadata method of the com.webos.service.attachedstoragemanager service on LG webOS versions 4 through 7. The flaw, tracked as CVE-2023-6319 and assigned CWE-78, permits specially crafted requests to execute arbitrary commands as the root user. Affected devices include specific firmware builds on models such as the LG43UM7000PLA, OLED55CXPUA, OLED48C1PUB, and OLED55A23LA, with a CVSS 3.1 score of 9.1 reflecting network-accessible, high-impact exploitation.
An authenticated attacker can send a sequence of malicious requests to the service and obtain root-level command execution on the television. This grants full control over the device, including the ability to read, modify, or delete data and potentially pivot within the local network due to the changed scope in the CVSS vector.
