CVE-2024-12270
Published: 07 December 2024
Summary
CVE-2024-12270 is a high-severity SQL Injection (CWE-89) vulnerability in Wordpress (inferred from references). Its CVSS base score is 7.5 (High).
Operationally, ranked in the top 1.5% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.
Deeper analysis
The Beautiful taxonomy filters plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to SQL injection in all versions through 2.4.3. The flaw is a classic CWE-89 instance in which the selects[0][term] parameter is concatenated into an existing query without adequate escaping or prepared-statement handling, allowing an attacker to alter the query semantics.
Unauthenticated remote attackers can therefore supply crafted input that appends arbitrary SQL clauses, enabling extraction of sensitive database contents. The CVSS 7.5 vector reflects network attackability with no authentication or user interaction required and a confidentiality impact limited to data disclosure.
Public references point to the plugin’s Trac repository and a subsequent changeset that addresses the parameter handling; the Wordfence advisory likewise recommends updating to a corrected release. The associated EPSS score has remained in the 0.66–0.68 range without a pronounced post-disclosure climb.
