Published: 18 May 2024
Summary
CVE-2024-2782 is a high-severity Missing Authorization (CWE-862) vulnerability in Fluentforms Contact Form. Its CVSS base score is 7.5 (High).
Operationally, ranked in the top 8.5% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.
Deeper analysis
The Contact Form Plugin by Fluent Forms for Quiz, Survey, and Drag & Drop WP Form Builder for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized modification of data because of a missing capability check on the /wp-json/fluentform/v1/global-settings REST API endpoint. The flaw affects all versions through 5.1.16 and carries a CVSS 3.1 score of 7.5, reflecting network-exploitable integrity impact without authentication or user interaction.
Unauthenticated attackers can send crafted requests to the endpoint and alter every plugin setting, enabling them to change form behavior, notification rules, or other configuration values stored by the plugin.
Public references point to a WordPress.org changeset that adds a GlobalSettingsPolicy check and to a Wordfence advisory that identifies the same missing-authorization issue; administrators are therefore advised to update to a release newer than 5.1.16.
EPSS for the CVE rose from a low baseline to a recorded peak of 0.1063 before receding to its current value of 0.0683, indicating a measurable increase in exploitation interest after disclosure.

Per-CVE control mapping for this CVE has not run yet; the list below is derived from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry.
Requiring an access control policy ensures authorization checks are defined and applied for critical functions.
Reviews of access controls detect missing authorization checks on critical functions or resources.
Documenting permitted unauthenticated actions prevents missing authorization by making all exceptions explicit and subject to organizational review.
Requiring attribute association with information prevents authorization from being performed without necessary security or privacy context.
Mandating authorization prior to allowing remote connections addresses missing authorization for remote access.
Mandating authorization before wireless connections are allowed prevents missing authorization for wireless access.
The control requires authorization before allowing mobile device connections, directly mitigating missing authorization for system access.
Requiring approvals for account creation and specifying authorizations ensures authorization is not missing for system access.
