CVE-2024-8275
Published: 25 September 2024
Summary
CVE-2024-8275 is a critical-severity SQL Injection (CWE-89) vulnerability in Stellarwp The Events Calendar. Its CVSS base score is 9.8 (Critical).
Operationally, ranked in the top 0.7% of CVEs by exploit likelihood; it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.
Deeper analysis
The Events Calendar plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to SQL injection in the tribe_has_next_event function. The flaw stems from insufficient escaping of the user-supplied order parameter and the absence of prepared statements in the existing query. All versions through 6.6.4 are affected, although the issue is present only on sites that have manually invoked the function.
Unauthenticated attackers can supply a crafted order value to append additional SQL statements to the original query. Successful exploitation allows extraction of sensitive database contents and carries a CVSS 3.1 score of 9.8.
A fix is available in the plugin changelog referenced by the vendor and Wordfence. The EPSS score stands at 0.8354 with no material post-disclosure increase from a lower baseline.

sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database. Only sites that have manually added tribe_has_next_event() will be vulnerable to this SQL injection.
