Summary

CVE-2026-103922 is a critical-severity Origin Validation Error (CWE-346) vulnerability. Its CVSS base score is 9.3 (Critical).

Operationally, ranked at the 11th percentile by exploit likelihood (below the median); it is not currently listed in the CISA KEV catalog.

The strongest mitigations our analysis identified map to AC-16 (Security and Privacy Attributes) and AC-3 (Access Enforcement) — see the control section below for these in your framework.

Vulnerability Data

Capacitor is a cross-platform native runtime for web applications. From 6.0.0 until 6.2.2, 7.6.9, 8.3.5, 8.4.3, and 8.5.1, the Android and iOS WebView navigation guard validates a target URL's host and scheme but not its path, allowing a victim who…

activates an untrusted link to navigate a frame to /_capacitor_http_interceptor_. The native proxy can fetch an attacker-selected URL and return the response as a document at the application's own origin, allowing script in that response to access same-origin storage, cookies, and registered Capacitor plugin capabilities. Applications remain affected when CapacitorHttp is disabled because affected releases serve the proxy path regardless of that setting. This issue is fixed in versions 6.2.2, 7.6.9, 8.3.5, 8.4.3, and 8.5.1.

Mitigating Controls

Mitigating Controls (NIST 800-53 r5) AI

Associating and preserving security attributes such as original source identity prevents the loss of provenance that creates the confused deputy.

Access enforcement directly stops a component from acting on forwarded requests without verifying original source authorizations.

Information flow enforcement directly requires validating the source of data before allowing transmission or receipt.

Device identification and authentication mandates verifying the source before establishing connections.

Session authenticity mechanisms require validation that communications originate from the expected party.

Boundary protection at interfaces enforces checks on the origin of incoming communications.

blocks

A.5.15 only requires defining and documenting an access control policy plus requirements; it does not itself enforce rules or stop a confused-deputy proxy from being introduced or exploited.

blocks

A.5.16 governs identity lifecycle, uniqueness, accountability and timely removal to support proper access rights assignment; it has no bearing on preserving original request sources or stopping confused-deputy proxying when a product forwards an upstream request.

degrades

Explicit access-rights assignment can restrict the product’s ability to act as an unintended proxy for external actors.

degrades

Privileged-access controls limit the rights the product may exercise on behalf of upstream callers, mitigating confused-deputy abuse.

degrades

Network security controls enforce origin validation at network boundaries.

degrades

Security of network services includes validating the authenticity of service endpoints.
