Vulnerability Data
The Mang Board plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Arbitrary File Upload in all versions up to, and including, 2.4.4 via the mbw_file_upload function. This is due to missing file extension validation on the attacker-supplied image_path parameter, whose basename-derived file…

name bypasses the extension allowlist applied only to the separate file_name parameter. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to upload files that may be executable, which makes remote code execution possible. Exploitation requires the board to be configured to allow guest posts, which is the plugin's default mode; the required nonce is printed on every public board page, making it readable by any unauthenticated visitor without a WordPress login.

Likely Mitigating Controls AI
Per-CVE control mapping for this CVE has not run yet; the list below is derived from the weakness types (CWEs) cited in the NVD entry.
Requiring identifiable owners for portable devices reduces the attack surface for unrestricted uploads of dangerous file types via anonymous media.
Dangerous file uploads can be detonated in the chamber to determine malice before any production write or execution occurs.
Prevents unrestricted writing of arbitrary or malicious firmware by keeping hardware write-protect enabled except under tightly controlled manual procedures.
Scans files from external sources on download/open/execute, blocking unrestricted uploads of dangerous file types.

Hardened configuration baselines can enforce allowed file types and processing rules.
Restricting execution of unauthorized software directly blocks dangerous uploaded files from running.
Secure development practices include input validation and file-type restrictions that prevent this weakness.
